Glad you made it through a hellish day of 'wheeling intact.

After my front spring mount ripped out I added a pair of gussets in front & 
behind
each mount.

The square tube is there to keep the shackle from reversing. If they go 
back and up
far enough, the shackle will lock in place.  The next good shock rips 
something because
neither end of the spring can move when the spring tries to flatten.  There 
are many
other ways to rip a mount out, but that's a common Scout cause.

'Howler' has stock length front shackles.  I suspect that longer ones won't 
overcenter,
but don't know what the length is needed.
