Re: What type on tranny?
Eric-
The transmission should be a T-15, if I recall correctly, but that really
doesn't matter. The 266/304/345/392 all share the same flywheel. The clutch
will be the same regardless of which manual transmission you have on a C102.
I would be more concerned with the pilot bearing and the throwout bearing.
The C102 is a model for a 61 or 62 model pickup or travelall, by the way.
The 100 part is the series. The zero in the 10s digit tells that it is a
half ton, 2wd. This was later used to identify an independent front end
suspension, but I can't verify that this was true as far back as the 3 digit
model numbers, so it may simply mean light duty half ton. If the 10s digit
had been a 2 (as in C122), it would be a 3/4 ton pickup or travelall, the
three (as in 130) would be a one ton, etc. The C100 series pickups and
travelalls have two headlights on each side, and the headlights are
horizontally mounted. The 63 and 64 model were the C1000 series.
You can buy clutch kits from Super Scout Specialists, who is one of the
sponsors of this forum, or at least you could last time I checked. If you're
not worried about core charges, get either the 11 or 12 inch. More than
likely you will find an 11 inch clutch. The flywheel, however, will be
drilled for either.
I get my clutches rebuilt at Arizona Brake and Clutch, in Phoenix, AZ. There
are undoubtedly similar businesses in your area. This one works for me
because I'm only about 100 miles from Phoenix. They have done 8 for me over
the last couple of years, and I have an account there. It costs me about
half of what a store would charge.
If the application is not listed at wherever you wish to buy your clutch, it
is the same clutch as is used all the way through 1980 in the scouts, and
through 1975 in the pickups and travelalls.
Hope this helps.
