Re: Fuse box, dash restoration questions

Dave;
I redid the fuse block in my 73 Scout II after I had the situation of two fuse
holders touching, making a 'key on' circuit an 'always hot' circuit. I picked
up two modular fuse panels from Autozone; about 7 bucks each IIRC. They snap
together so that you end up with eight circuits; I made one block 'always hot'
and one block 'key on', and ended up with one extra circuit on each for future
add-ons, like AC. I was able to use the original Scout II mounting bracket
(the old fuse block unscrews from it) and by using a couple of new screws, I
was able to put the new fuse blocks in the same spot under the dash, and use
the same attachment points to the dash. I was careful to keep my circuits
seperated (as in, do one at a time), and it takes a while as I crimped and
soldered all of the wires to the new blocks. I also made sure that I drew up a
diagram of which fuse was what before I buttoned it all back together, to make
future troubleshooting easier. But, for under $20 and a couple of hours I
ended up with what you're looking for. The only drawback I could see with it
was that the new blocks projected 'down' from the dash a little further than
the old one, but as I am around 6'2" and 'large boned' (to be charitable) if I
didn't have a problem with it most people probably wouldn't.
