Congratulations, and welcome to the real world that they didn't teach
you anything about in school, because they don't know anything about
the real world. 
However, the really important thing, as you have already surmised, is
that piece to paper, which if nothing else, says that you were
persistent enough to get it. 
Isn't it a funny world where the paper you hang is usually more
important than what you can actually do?
