My 74 Scout II with 345 and manual trans had a shroud when I bought it 6+ 
years and 125,000 less miles ago. I live in the Antioch area, and when I 
broke the shroud a couple of years ago doing my 3" body lift, I saw almost no 
increase in engine temperature. I reads just a tad higher on real hot days 
and when I'm doing fairly serious wheeling (read slooooow). It still doesn't 
even get to the half way mark. I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts 
running hot.
