Mufflers

All this talk about mufflers - I just have to throw in my 2 cents
worth. I have a glass pack on my 'Burban and I really like the sound of
it. It's not really all that loud but it is noticeable. I do also notice
a difference in power and efficiency when used w/ the K&N filter.
I took the Scout in yesterday and had the complete exhaust system
replaced including having the mufflers replaced with 2-chambered
Flowmasters. The exhaust, before, went outside the frame with the
mufflers underneath the driver and passenger - also outside the frame
with the tips exiting just in front of the back tires. It was leaking
badly at the engine and I was in fear if taking out a muffler on a rock
or something. I had the muffler shop replace the manifold gasket -
manifolds needed to be machined to make them smooth again and after
reading the nightmares on replacing those gaskets here, I didn't wanna
tackle it myself. Now it all is inside the fame and I had them make the
tips dump right behind the rear axle.
Results: It really sounds great! A nice, low, throaty resonance. I went
w/ 2-1/4" from front to back since I heard that 3" pipes will allow the
exhaust to swirl and thus cause its own back pressure. I haven't driven
it enough to fully gauge the performance but this is the 1st step in a
long list of things that need to be done to make it street legal since
the Hummer is now gone.
