Re: 345 in an 800

Michael,

I've got a 392 installed in my 69. The only problem I found with the size of
the engine was the air cleaner clearance. I originaly used a K&N dropped base
14" cleaner but it has problems clearing the thermostat housing. Carb to
manifold and carb to air cleaner spacers have to be used and that gets it up
very close to the hood. I actually creased the air cleaner top the first time
I shut the hood.

I changed that out for a normal 9" diameter X 2" tall unit when I added 1
1/2" of body lift and no problems. The smaller air cleaner looks a little
strange but I ran the figures and it porvides plenty of air. I never checked
but if this unit is used without the 1" carb to manifold spacer, it may fit
without any body lift.

One other spot is close for clearance. There is very little room between the
back side of the block on the drivers side and the firewall. It took a while
to get the engine in and lined up properly.
