Proceed with caution-Danny's not himself!

Tom M. and others-

Please be careful! Reading Dan's last post concerning the mud and silt
and filth in his engine/tranny reminds me that he is on some BIG-TIME
medications right now for his knee. Proceed with caution!!! He could
be dangerous!!! All you East Coasters, keep him away from heavy
machinery!!! And anything sharp!!!
I guess we don't need to worry too much, as he can't run very fast right
now!!!

Anyway, I just went to tune up the '73 Scout II, and it is running. I
finished re-wiring the ignition on the '71 Scout 800, and played with
the brakes on the '64 T'all. Scout II is running great-even though they
gave me the wrong cap and wrong points! I just reset the new points,
replaced the cap and rotor-which I had managed to jam on so that the
"ridge" or "gap" in the shaft of the distributor had scraped off a
little bit of the "wedge" on the inside of the rotor cylinder so that it
was not going on quite as far as it should. This explained the very
terrible running of last night-as I did this Saturday afternoon and
hadn't driven it on Sunday. Yesterday was the first day I had driven it
since messing it up further on Saturday. It was already running like
crap before that, so I will attribute that to the points gap slipping.
After the carb was on, and the wires sorted out, the 800 runs MUCH
better! Almost ready to run! Still a little rough, but this carb does
not even have on the same linkage as the one that is supposed to be on
there, so after I rebuild the other and put it back on, I will try to
gte it dialed in. Have to get the exhaust work done, too, as it is
backfiring badly (probably due to the carb stuff), and this is very loud
with a lousy exhaust!
T'all seems to have more difficult to diagnose problems. Lights are
intermittent. No headlights at all. Taillights usually, until I feel
comfortable that thye are working, then I'll piull the knob and even the
taillights won't come on. Brakelights started working, but didn't
ALWAYS work. I cleaned the fuse "snaps" and the fuses, which showed no
signs of breakage. I will try new fuses, but doubt this is the
problem. I may try to switch the switch (under dash) from my '68 brake
light to the '64, which comes with the one on the combination master
cylinder (no power brakes). Any input on this switch switchover? Will
it work? Leave it alone?

Thanks!

Michael
