If your Scout (345) is getting hot, I would definitely change the most 
likely Stant style thermostat to a genuine Robertshaw.  The Robertshaw 
functions as a valve that shuts off the bypass as it opens the passage 
to the radiator.

I've been sitting in traffic for one half to a whole hour lately and the 
engine temp hasn't gone up significantly.  Last year it would have never 
survived the traffic.  It would have boiled over.

The Robertshaw part number I'm using is 370-190.  It was $5 or less at 
AutoZone.
