How about just mounting the jerry can in the engine bay with the electric 
fuel pump, T'd in as a backup fuel source?

Or, in a pinch, fill the windshield washer bottle with gas, and grab a 
vacuum line to run fuel from the washer-sprayer nozzles to the fuel inlet 
of the carb.. and just keep on the "spray" button!
