Tom,
   It is a bit of work to pull out the core. You need to remove the
hoses, which is the biggest problem IMO. Then you have to remove the
piece of metal that covers the opening. This is like 4 phillips head
screws with 25 years of rust on them. I wouldn't do it at -17.
