Bearings in engines...(Tom H)

        Actually, I'm rather surprised here.  You, of all, should have 
     gotten this one.  The bearings are made of mild steel, with a nominal 
     .015 lead/alloy coating, in a half round shape.  These are adjustable 
     for fit by increasing/decreasing the distance between the edges, to 
     fit the rods, journals better.  They are available commonly in 4 or 5 
     sizes to accomodate for running in, oversizing, and machine errors.

Niether of these is a bearing as in "ball bearing" but hardened metal
plates that are inserted between the metal of the crankshaft and the block
or the crankshaft and the connecting rods. Oil is fed to them to lubricate
the interface.
