Ha!! I carefully stated that all the disc brakes I HAD EVER
SEEN had the larger res. in the back.

That would, of course, be true.

So there.

Seriously, though, your point about how everything is
somewhat sized out is the thing I was wondering about.

BUT.. it turns out (after reading my IH manual) that m/c's
compensate quite a bit for everything.  In fact, you don't
even push directly on the forward piston... the rearward
piston pushes the forward piston thru the brake fluid.

Which explains how it compensates for any differing amount
of movement necessary.

Also, it's pretty clear that the gasket is immaterial.  The system
is "open" at the very beginning of the stroke... then the
pistons moves past the little holes in the reservoir, shutting them
off and making a closed system... in which the reservoir has
no part.

So as long as the m/c is big enough in both chambers to
move sufficient fluid, then after that sizing is just a matter of
what kind of feel the brakes have, not absolute stopping
power.
