Lift install

O.K. I'm all alone here at home so I can think clearly. I got the lift
installed. Triangle 4" spring kit from Super Scout Specialist. If I had
stuck with the stock 1/2' u-bolts all would have been easy, but;
noooooo, I know better than the IH engineers. (A friend was telling me
his J##p had 3/8" bolts and the Scouts have 1/2" so I was allready
overkilled.) I had to use 5/8" u-bolts which required each and every
u-bolt plate to be drilled out (still have my wrist intact). Then when I
had the bolts made the guy a SSS told me to have 6 bolts bent on 22" rod
and 2 bent on 24" rod (for the front pass). Well, this was about 2" to
long. So, MIKE, get 6 20" and 2 22" rods. Since the bolts are hardened I
couldn't use a sawzaw to shorten them up, I had to use my cut off wheel.
PITA. I had to cut them off before I could finish, because; I couldn't
get my deep well socket on the nuts to tighten/torque them. Then when I
tried to lengthen the brake line in the back I almost twisted the hard
line off. I have a friend that has a Snap On double flaring tool he is
going to lend me, so I'm just going to cut the stripped nut off and
re-do it.
It is now finished, and on the advice of John Comer, I didn't install
the 1" lowering blocks on the passenger side. Not a good idea. I now sit
1" low on the drivers side. I think it will stay that way until I go buy
new u-bolts to replace the ones I'll have to take off to put the block
in. So, MIKE, put the block back in.
I haven't done any measurments yet. I will later on tonight.
On the way home I found that I lost a nut on my exhaust donut on the
drivers side. I have to wait for it to cool down and I'll go throw one
on.
I also used lots and lots of that silicon grease on the bushings.
Also, someone was asking a while back about removing the urethane
bushings. I replaced the two I had on the front frame mounts. It was
fairly easy. I drove the sleave out with a screwdiver, then drove the
one half out from the inside with the screw driver. This was a little
difficult because of the angles, but it finally came out and the other
side then popped right out. It was easy.
