Doug,
Sounds like you got this down, I would hook the bypass to the extra
terminal on the remote solenoid. The NAPA Echlin ST81 has the extra
terminal. Strangely enough it's marked "I" for ignition. :-)

Point to ponder:
Somebody comes along with a jumper wire, connects it between your battery
and coil....and then presses the solenoid push button...Bye Bye Scout. The
Scouts with tilt steering don't even have lock columns (800's?).  I did
this every other week back in high school when my parents took my keys
away, my Mom kept looking for a third set of keys.
I have a large push button switch with clip on leads that works great for
bumping over the engine from the under the hood.  I use it for adjusting
the valve lash on my C*maro (mechnical lifters).
