White smoke/Blue smoke

If you're in doubt about what color of smoke is comming out at start up, try
this simple test. Have someone hold a sheet of white paper a couple of inches
from the tail pipe while the engine is started. If the smoke is from oil
burning the paper will be spotted with oil. If the smoke is from a coolant
leak, any wetness on the paper will dry with no oil spots.
'Course if you have *both* bad rings *and* a cracked block, it's probably time
for a complete overhaul.
