exhaust manifolds

Tom said,
"I guess I should start soaking those exhaust manifold bolts with WD40
immediately... OTOH, I will be pulling the motor completely out, so
EZ-Outing 'em won't be so bad... "

Tom,
A torch is an invaluable tool when taking out exhaust studs. I don't
know if you have one or can borrow one from a neighbor like I always do,
but a little heat on the bolts makes life a lot easier, plus I hate using
EZ-outs unless its a last resort like when one of my sparkplugs broke off
in the head right at the base of the threads. I found that they seize to
the manifolds more than the head themselves. If worst comes to worst you
can cut them in the open space where the bolt passage through the manifold
is open, pull the manifold out of the way, and then turn them out with Vice
Grips. I think that's how I got 4/5 of the original manifold bolts out of
both of my 345's.
Good luck,
Sounds like fun,;)
