Re: cooling
Alright guys I need a little help on this one. My 80 traveler with a 345
auto, and towing package wants to run hot on the highway, at least that
is what the factory guage shows! In town and on back roads it points
straight up and down. On the highway it will go right of center. I put a
new fan clutch on it, no change. With a fixed fan it stays in the
center, but I'm not too crazy about the noise. Today I put a mechanical
guage on it. I pulled out the vacuum switch on the drivers rear of the
intake. it used to be for the egr, but it's gone. Around town and
backroads 180, on the highway it climbs up to 200-205, pull off and let
it idle drops down to 180.
My questions are, is the location as accurate as the thermostat housing?
is it getting too hot on the highway, and why? I need to get this taken
care of quickly before going on a four hour trip to the Nationals.
