Re: ihc-digest V6 #18

Jim,

I'm sorry I didn't get to say goodbye. I waved and flashed
the lights on the Travelall as we came back from Coonrod's (closed)
through Kenosha pass on Sunday. Hope your drive goes OK, and I look
forward to speaking in the future.

        Regards,

Sort of using this as a test, since I have not been able to post to the
digest for a while.

If it does go through, I sure enjoyed talking with several of you digest
folks at the RMIHR event. It was kind of fun to have the big truck there
and see folks shaking their heads is disbelief that someone would undertake
such a big project!

John,

The lifters in my Scout when I took them out about 6 years ago, were
WICKED hard to recompress with oil. When a lifter sticks, they usually stick in
the compresssed position, if they stick in the high position, there is just a
bit less shock absorbing action in the valvetrain. They are a small clearance
piston, and when I refilled mine with 10-40wt., I had to put a channellocks on
the ligfter with a socket in the center, AND a channellocks on the handle of the
first, and even then it took about 15 minutes to get ONE to compress. Fill them
as much as you can, squeeze the crap out of them, get the clip in and put them
in. They'll pump up pretty quick, and you can buff the cam riding surface with
a dremel tool first so they minimize cam wear.

The lifters being stuck in the full size condition will not impede an
engine's running (crapping out).

Good luck,

Thanks for the reply Tom.
<snip>

The whole reason I'm changing the lifters is because I found two that were
totally frozen. I placed a load of 300 pounds in a bench press on to the
lifter and it never budged. Possibly this was a major contributor to my
engine crapping out about three weeks ago when I first started to write
about my problems.

Thanks everybody!

Theresa,

It was good to meet you, and I'm glad you found a ride back. Tell me,
how did you hook up with the Ismails while you were there? I thought you were
running their booth for a moment.

Look forward to seing you at other events, WITH your truck!

Hey all,

Well, I just got back from RMIHR. One of the highlights of my trip, (besides
getting to race in Banshee) was meeting so many of the digest members. A HUGE
thanks to both the Korsten's and the Farmer's for my rides to and from the
airport. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I have to say, this is one of the
nicest groups of people I have ever met. I'm hoping to meet more of you in
the future. Anyone who wasn't able to make it this year, hope to see you out
there next year. I've already decided I definitely want to go back (next time
with my Scout).

Take Care,

Theresa
