Scout II 4-speed parts

     Greetings Binders,

I think I found some fairly lousy news over the weekend - to make a
long story short, after several clutch adjustments, I'm pretty sure
that my 2nd gear synchronizer in my close-ratio 4 speed is shot. Now
I'm considering what to do. Are new (remanufactured?) parts "readily"
available for this transmission? (Was it made by Borg Warner?) I
think rebuild transmissions are available (Super Scout Specialists),
but I'm hoping to do the rebuild myself. Any thoughts or suggestions
     are appreciated.

I figure this will also be a good time to do the U-joints that I
haven't gotten around to. A quick pull on the front driveshaft the
other day showed that I have quite a bit of play, not only in the
upper U-joint at the T-case, but also between the slip stub and the
shaft itself. Could this be caused by the reduced engagement from the
4" lift springs? Perhaps a bad U-joint is completely the cause? I
have a suspicion that my splines may be in pretty lousy shape.

Dan - I'm still planning to come to the Scout the Pines trip, even if
I have to limp along with three speeds!
