John, as I reread your comments I see that you are using an equalizer hitch
- I missed that the first time.  I have wondered what the tongue weight ends
up being on the rental trailers.  They all appear to be set up to so the
vehicle has to be all the way to the front of the trailer to use their
tiedown system.  This might not be so critical when you rent a big truck
too.  I suppose you could back the vehicle on the trailer and see if that
changes the weight distribution...
