RE: Questions!
Jim,
Great info, I was debating on MSD, and I definately know what you're
saying about the hype from Jacob's, I just listen to what they have to say,
I heard something about fuel mileage and I just gave him a "Yup......".
With the MSD, do you retain the the gold box or not. I bought an Accel
"Super Coil" at Auto Palace Sunday, but didn't install it yet, is it
comparable to the MSD offroad coil you're talking about? My main complaint
and motive for the ignition change is 2 weekends in a row now I had
problems staring, had fuel, but not enough spark, moisture I think. Runs
great once I get it going. I thought it was either you or Steve S who had
dealt with Summit concerning the Mallory distributor.

Are you buyin' Jim?? ;)

A warning about Jacobs. They make good stuff, no doubt. They also hype the
hell out of it and try to make it seem like you're getting some custom
setup designed just for your motor and rig. Trust me, everything's off the
shelf, they're just reading off a list of recommended pieces for the
general make/engine. Prices are also very negotiable, I've heard as low as
$350.00 for a complete setup(maybe the sales guy needed to make his numbers
for the week).

If you really want to open up that intake, gasket match the port area and
send it to extrude hone for the runners.

Subject: Questions!
OK, its my turn to purge the digest for info.
Just got a 4 bbl square bore intake, the holes for the carb look kinda
small. Is it possible/necessary to open these up? What about openning up
the runners? In the bulletin it mentions "Both the intake and exhaust
passages were opened up substantially" on the Performance V-304 heads,
can't this be simalarly done to the intake. I plan on eventually putting
on a Holley 4D Projection 700CFM, so I guess the question is, Whats the
bore diamemter for the holley throttle body for that model? I thought I
read that Holley recommends a square bore for their Injection systems.?.?
Any advice from the fuelie guys would help.
Next, Talked to Jacobs Electronics yestarday, Dr. Bryant hooked me up
with a kit, Jacobs Ultra Team with the ceramic booted wires custom set up
for my '77 345 (electroinc) $470 (ouch, waiting a couple weeks until
funding becomes available), he said I could keep the mystery box on the
fire wall or bypass it. I think I'll bypass it but I'll keep the box there
for backup. Any advice from people who have run Jacob's would help here.
To keep on the subject of ignition, who bought a Mallory (maybe another
brand) distributor from Summit? What was the part number, cost, how'd it
run? Didn't you have to return it? Was it for elcetronic or point
ignition? What's the difference at the dist? (never checked out a point
dist)
Lastly, I sent an email to Competition Cams, asked them if they'd
setup/sell a Magnum kit with Chev big block valve springs, retainers, and
keepers(maybe they already do, I dont know). I thought it would be cool if
they could offer this setup 'cause I think alot of us like to run our IH
engines over 3800 RPM. Any thoughts??
Thanks alot for info in advance!
