Learn the old Indian trick of securing the brushes with a toothpick, 
follow the IH workshop manual on alternator diagnosing, get a DVM 
and learn how each electrical component functions, consider upgrading 
the stator for increased output, be careful if and when you press out 
the end bearing (it is easy to crack the case) ... when you have 
absorbed all this knowledge, share with us.  Mark
