RE:electric fan

I spent several years trying to get a Flexilite electric fan to work on
my 345 powered 74 scout II. Gave it an honest try, biggest one they
made. Had a thermostat soldered in the tank, good wiring yada yada
yada. Did not have enough cooling at idle in traffic or on the trail.
Tried to make several fan shrouds and worked at idle but then overheated
on highway. Last straw was when it failed on trial trip when the fuse
holder disintegrated.
Went to a mechanical Flexilite aluminum blade flex fan with the stock
international fan shroud and have been happy ever since. I believe
better gains in gas mileage can be found in internal motor work and
crankshaft balancing.
If someone would like to try the electric fan on a four-cylinder
Scout that may be viable. Still may have to go to a 3-core radiator.
I still have the fan if someone is interested. You may have to come to
Seattle to get it so I can scold you properly and sign a waiver :-)
Overheating------------make sure your timing is correct. I have
found that I can advance timing to almost the point of pinging and
engine runs much cooler. ie:not exposing the cylinder walls to as
much heat.
