Custom Seats

Just musing this morning about what to do for seats in my '72 during my
jumbo sized project..

I currently have a nicely upholstered (Deluxe Interior!) stock bench seat,
with shot springs (I sink into my seat, and I'm only around 175lbs)

I'm thinking it might be nice to swap in a set of bucket seats from
something, not sure what yet. I have a few parts cars I can scavenge,
including an '83 Pontiac 2000 w/ buckets (not that I want 'em, but...)

What's the best way to go about converting a bench seat to buckets? One way
would be to buy a stock Bucket Seat base and stock Bucket seats, but barring
that...

Someone mentioned bolting some plywood to the seat base, and the seat to the
plywood.. this doesn't sound like such a hot idea to me.

I'm wondering if Bill T's brother might have some input on this..

Could it be as simple as welding some angle stock or tube stock rails across
the top of the bench seat base ends ('box" the top of each side) and then
bolting the new seats down to the custom rails? What would I want to do
about being able to adjust the seats forward/backwards (my wife-to-be
insists on making my knees hit against the dash when I let her drive...)

This sounds like a good candidate for the FAQ...
