Have you checked the balance wheel on the front of the crank?

I had the same problem , and found that the balancer/timing wheel, which
consists of two parts joined with a rubber center, was coming apart,
allowing the outer part, from which timing registration is taken, to shift
about 8 degrees under load. This caused erratic firing and rough running at
high revs.
