'94 525 Touring new owner questions

Hello all,

I just subscribed after purchasing my first BMW, a '94 525i Touring wagon.  

I'm hoping someone can give advice on the following:  I would like to put on
a Thule or Yakima roof rack to carry my bikes.  After checking the
manufacturer's fit guide, it appears the only available offering is for the
rack to fit on the rain gutters.  If possible, I want the rack feet to
attach via the factory roof rails.

Has anyone done this and if so, offer any hints or solutions?
