RE: 325iC computer display light problem

A quick and dirty instruction sheet on this (I've done two)

Remove the radio (c'mon, it's not that hard and you'll thank yourself later
because of all the room you have to work.)Remove the four buttons from along the
top of the heater/AC panel. Look up inside, behind the panel along the top edge
of the dashboard and you'll see two small screws. Remove them. You will feel the
top of the panel will have some play now. At the bottom of the panel, below the
bottom slide button and up underneath the panel over the change tray, you'll
find a couple of more small screws. These are a bit harder to work with and
will be hard to replace when you're done but if you do remove them you will have
enough play to pull the top of the panel out enough to access the light module
in the OBC.

Pull the top of the panel out as far as you can. Be gentle but firm. You can
pull it out further than you think. If you look on the right side (yours) of the
OBC you will see the white edge of the light module. It's partially covered by
the internal lip of the heater/AC panel. You'll need to remove enough material
so that you can extract the light module and it will clear this lip. Don't
worry about removing this material. It's entirely internal to the dashboard and
is impossible to be seen once the panel back in. Get a good set of needlenose
pliers and pull bits of the plastic material away from the area you need to
clear for the light module. Once you've removed enough material, grab hold of
the edge of the light module with the needlenose pliers and give a quick, firm
tug. The module will slide out.

At that point you can either replace it with one you bought at the BMW dealer or
you can resolder new bulbs onto the board inside the module. I did the latter
but you may just want to replace the whole bar. Install is reverse of removal.

Good luck,
Tony

Whoops, I forget a critical piece of information. My car is a 1987
325iC. Is
there a tool or reasonable facsimile of one which will extract the
computer
panel so I dig around and get at the nasty bulb. I can't blame the
little
bugger, it has 91,000 miles. Thanks again, Charles.
