As a mother and grandmother on the list, I heartily endorse the 'more
room you have, the more you'll carry' view.  Not only will you get more
than enough stuff into 3 or 5 series sedan or a touring, but you and
your family will be a lot safer than in almost any other car on the
road.  I do recommend a 4-door because doing the baby-seat deal when
it's raining is a real 'headache' with a 2-door.
