<E30> Turn Signal Wire Access

What is the method to gain access to the rear of the front
turn signal/running light housings on a 1991 E30? 15.7.2
of the FAQ says to just "reach in" but that is not possible
on this model.

There are 3 wires to the turn signal/running lights. I am guessing
one is Running Light Hot, one is Turn Signal Hot (from flasher relay)
and the other is ground.

Problem is two of the three connections have pulled loose from the
rear of the light housing. And the only access from the rear is a
2" x 3" hole - not big enough to get adult hands in.

I started "peeling" from the front and when I got deeper, it looks like
the screws which hold the housing face torward the rear (engine
compartment) which makes them inaccessable without removing the
entire front bumper (didn't think this should be required to reconnect
some common wires). There was some minor body work done on the
front end and it is possible the body shop put things together
incorrectly - but I am hoping for a trick or secret to this one.

I apologize if this question has been asked 20 times before but I haven't
found the answer in the FAQs or archives and since I moved,. my
Bentley Manual has yet to be found. Just trying to get this fixed as
soon as possible before I get a nice traffic ticket.
