E36 Brake Light Circuit Failure

Hi all,
I'm getting the dreaded "Brake Light Circuit Failure" message on the OBC. The
switch was replaced under recall a few years ago (4-5, I think). Could the new
switch have gone south? Or should I check something else before throwing parts
on the car? I assume the switch isn't too expensive and replacing it is pretty
straightforward (I have the Bentley manual, but haven't checked yet).
