733i goes "pop", then some smoke, rough idle

Folks,
My 733I has been running swell until today I when I
started it.  I heard a "pop", then some smoke.  I let
it sit for a bit and then restarted it with no
problem.  Now it idles inconsistently.  It runs but
the RPMs fluctuate as if its missing a spark plug.
Suggestions?
