re: was 323i more power, now torque vs. HP. Also, Militec 1.

As I recall, Its impossible to win an argument against the laws of
physics.
Horsepower is a function of Torque and RPM.
While displacement is a component of the equation for Torque.
If you wish to produce an 8500 RPM 2.3 liter 280 horsepower
200 ft/pound torque screaming buzzbomb of a testicle squeezed street
racer engine with more lope at idle than you can shake an emissions
tester probe at, enjoy.
    I still will prefer my 3.2 liter 260 horsepower 250 ft/pound torque
mildly massaged grunting black forest beast of a reliable, economical,
daily driver, no viagra needed, and be faster and eminently more
drivable, too.
The law of Physics will always win out over seeking to belittle a
digest poster via agnostic abuse of the English language every time.

re: Transmission additives and oils, was Militec 1

Now that's a name I haven't heard of in a while
Kyle Petty started carrying Militec 1 sponsor's decals on his Winston
Cup car back in the mid nineties. Don't know if he still does. I tried
a bottle in my street prepared motor and, well, maybe it did a little
something, as least at idle, because I needed to turn down my idle speed
screw a touch.(this motor had had its ICV replaced with a bolt and
Silicon rubber and I used the throttle plate stop screw to set idle
speed, but that another article for another day).
Never got to dyno but arbitrary seat of the pants said it might have
been a touch faster. With autocross classes decided by hundreths or
less, it was worth the try.
In the gearbox, that would be another story.
A late model BMW manual transmission with Redline ATF for the street or
MTL for heavier usage really is not something worth trying to improve on
unless you have either filthy rich, or very naive, sponsors. Its not
something I would risk my own money or precious gearbox over.
The gearbox in my above mentioned autocrosser was a new replacement
for the sew of sludge original gearbox that it replaced. Before selling
the car that second trans, bought new, gave me 100k Redline MTL filled
miles with nary a whimper, wine, or visible spec of crud when I drained
and replaced the mildly discolored old Redline oil every 25k miles.
One time I replaced the Redline with new AMSOil. The trans shifted
noticeable notchier with new AMSOil than 25k old Redline, so back in
with the Redline.
So Militec 1 in the engine? Probably yes.
Militec 1 or anything else in the trans other than Redline, for this
driver, nope no way.
