Keith,

On an '87 325i with Motronic 1.3 the check engine codes do not flash when
you turn the key to on.  That was only on earlier cars with Motronic 1.1.
To get the codes to flash you need to turn the key to ON, then fully depress
and release the accelerator pedal 5 times fairly quickly.  This toggles the
throttle position switches between the closed and fully open sensors.
