You can open the hood from the outside through the
left grill area.  If you look through the grill area
you will see that the latch is exposed for just this
reason.  You can do it with a long thin flat blade
screwdriver or you may be able to pop that section of
the grill off.  Don't remember if you can remove the
grill with the hood shut, but you should be able to
pop the latch either way.
