You can't test the fan clutch by spinning the fan......

The only reliable indicator I have found,  is a rapid temp rise when
going up a long hill at about 25MPH.......all other factors being
eliminated.

If it's 3-5 years old, it will be tired. They don't seem to last on E30
models......much longer.
