FWIW, this is *exactly* what I have done before.  And, when I absolutely, 
positively have to have new tires ASAP, I ask the local tire shop if they 
will match the Tire Rack price and/or give a discount to BMWCCA 
members.  Radial Tire, in Silver Spring, MD matched the Tire Rack price.
