lifetime slush box fluid replacement

Hi folks,
Does anyone know when BMW went with "lifetime" slush box fluids in 4-speed
E36 (GM?) transmissions?
I just finished inspection II on my wife's 02/98 production 328i minus the
slush box fluid change. Bentley says to look at the side of the transmission
for fluid identification but the only thing I found crawling under a car on
jack stands was a VIN plate. If the required fluid is Dexron III, I would
order some more Redline D4 ATF and at least replace some of it sitting in
the pan. But if it's the "lifetime goo", any idea with what that should be
replaced?
I do realize that about 50% of the slush box fluid is left in the torque
converter. But after 2 RedLine changes I should flush 75% of the old fluid
out. BTW, does the said tranny come with any kind of a transmission fluid
filter/screen? I'm looking at the ETK and not finding any!
