e30 brake pad wear indicator flickers

My '89 e30 brake pad wear indicator flickered so I changed front and
rear pads and both sensors - but the indicator still flickers
occasionally? Any ideas what I should check next!
Actually, it turned out none of the pads were that bad when I took them
out - but ok a change wasn't far off.
