E30: Bad Vibes

Hello BMW Experts!
For the last month or so, I have been getting some vibrations and even
knocking noises from what seems like the rear, or center rear, of me car.
I suspect it is the center drive shaft bearing, but would like to hear some
other opinions. I get a bit of vibration at ~ 42-45 mph, and then again at
~ 80 or so. On some surfaces, like the big cement slab highways, I can get
a vibe going that perpetuates itself.
I did up my rear subframe bushings this past winter, and might have
messed things up. When I was pulling the diff out, the drive shaft
extended back with it. IIRC, this shouldn't happen, since the drive shaft
is tightened down at the center to keep the correct length (I am trying to
remember from a post here, so I may be wrong on this).
The next suspected part would be the subframe bushings, which I might
have stretched too much while installing. I used a two leg hub puller to
snug the bushings into the subframe, and the center screw of the puller may
have stretched the rubber by being too enthusiastically over done, oushing
the center of the bushing way up, and thus stretching it out from the outer
part which seats in the subframe.
What do you all think; did I screw this stuff up? If it is the drive
shaft center bearing, is this an easy job? I don't usually mess up this
badly....
                    TIA! Murf '87 328is w/~160,000 mi.
