Strangely,
I was in Charlotte and the belt that controls the water pump and the
alternator broke. I ran about 5 miles with the car overheating then
stopped. I noticed very little coolant in holding tank so I put some in and
waited for a tow. Today the car was supposed to get a new cat in GA. Maybe
someone is trying to tell me to give up on a car for 260,000 miles on it.

Chris,
From what you have said in your question my educated guess/opinion is
that your CAT is NO GOOD. When the CAT starts to fail, the particles
inside begin to rattle and to block/restrict the exhaust. When this
happens, it also usually takes out the O2 Sensor. So you are most likely
looking at a new CAT and a new O2 Sensor and then you will more than likely
pass your emissions test.
happy motoring,
