89 535, fuel guage

Fuel gauge on my 89 535 sticks in 2/3 position no mater how much fuel is in
the tank.  It does return to zero position when the engine is turned off.
Since my Dad is driving the car, I have not had a chance to play with the On
board computer to see what if it is displaying correct miles to empty.

I suspect the fuel sender unit??  If you guys agree, does anybody have
experience in replacing the part.  Other suggestions???
