Acceleration Lag in '98 M3

This has been going on a while...naturally the dealer can't replicate
it:

On a very hard acceleration run (to redline), the engine sometime
hesitates after a gear change. Pedal floored, lift to shift, nail it
again and it is as if the rev limiter has kicked in for a half second,
then it's off to the races again.

Anybody had this gremlin?
