intermittent stalling

my 86 535i engine stalls abruptly and intermittently, not in idle, but at
running speed. the stall lasts a few second before the engine cuts back in.
i'm thinking of doing an electrical check of the fuel system...i suspect a bad
connection somewhere...

any hints or suggestions?
