Henri, thanks for the reply.

The sound starts when I start the car on days when the temperature is below
5 or 10 degrees and it seems to emanate from the lower rear of the car while
it is entirely stationary. I've also begun to notice it while driving on the
highway as well. My car has only 26,000 miles on it.
