I am replacing the expansion valve and need to know what to do with the
copper pig tail on the side of the valve. This is some sort of thermostat
probe, but it is unclear where it goes. The old valve (which was installed
about 4 years ago by a shop) still had the plastic cover on it. The new one
in the box has the exact same cover over the round thermostat.
Here are my options:
1. The cover is NOT just for shipping, and is supposed to stay on the valve.
2. The cover is for shipping and should be removed; the probe should stay
in the curled in position.
3. The cover is for shipping and should be removed, the probe should be
straightened (2 inches long) and placed close to the evaporator core.
IF YOU KNOW...PLEASE TELL ME!!
My Bentley manual is my BMW bible, but the A/C section is basically
useless and does not even come close to this sort of detail.
I will be installing a Seltec compressor kit this weekend. If anyone
considering this option...I will let you know next week how it is doing.
Thanks.
