<E36> Window problem

I have the following problem with the window:
When the door is opened the window lowers about a 1/4 inch, this is where
the problem begins on my car it lowers about 3 inches, and when the door is
closed the window does not go back up.  I have done the following, bought a
new window motor.  Anyone else have a similar problem?
