Convertible window maintenance

Hello ,

             Here are the received replies to the question regarding
maintaining the rear window of a convertible top.

*  Perhaps most important is exercising extreme caution when folding down
the top in hot weather.   Apparently the frosty crease across the window
is caused by folding the plastic when hot.    Park in the shade or a
garage, or  carefully place  towels  on the interior and exterior of the
plastic window between the folds when dropping the top.

        Maintain a scratchy or creased window with these products, in no
particular order 
and as received from sources  :
 

1.    Plexus Plastic Cleaner
        USA military specification plastic cleaner for several fighter
aircraft plastic 
         canopies.   Polishes out all scratches.

2.    Mirror Glaze Plastic Cleaner and Mirror Glaze Plastic Polish.
        Formulated specifically to clean convertible windows.   Use both
bottles in a 
        two step process.  Works well on glass, too.   About  $ 6  per
bottle from 
        BMW dealer.

3.     Any car wax with abrasives will remove scratches and the frosted
effect from 
        convertible plastic window.   Liquid polymers in the formula are
helpful cleaners.
         Abrasive free formulations for clear coat paint will NOT help.

4.    JC Whitney   part number   71vf1263x   $ 9.95  and  part number  
15vf9621x   $ 6.95
        as a two step system of cleaning then polishing.
        A five minute application every few months.    Source, based upon
experience,
        thinks JC Whitney   and Meguiar's  (see below)  might actually be
the same liquid
        and is very pleased with both products.

6.   Motorcycle shop products for maintaining helmet visors and
motorcycle
      windshields.
