<E30> Best Approach for R/R O2 Sensor (Eta Engine)

I'd appreciate any / all suggestions regarding how to remove and replace the
O2 sensor on an '86 325ea. Is it best to remove the rear of the cat pipe
from the front of the resonator / muffler assy or do I have to remove the
cat from the exhaust manifold as well? (I assume there is no secret trap
door allowing easy cabin access!)

As the sensor is positioned about the exhaust pipe it is very difficult to
access.

TIA!
