check engine - knock sensor 2

Hi,

Occasionally the check engine light flashes on my 1995 e36 m3, stock chip.
It happens in first gear revving to just under 3000 rpm.  I checked the
motronic fault code and it's spits out 1226, which is "knock sensor 2".  
I live in the SF Bay Area and always buy premium unleaded gas, so that's
not the problem, correct?  So is it a bad sensor?  Is this something I can
replace easily myself?  Some pointers would be appreciated.
